Due to the fact that Ruff Land Kennels does not have personal knowledge of your pet we prefer not to recommend sizes of kennels. We feel consulting with your trainer or vet would give you the best results for sizing. Thank you for your understanding.
Ruff FLEX Technology
The walls, top and floor on Ruff Land™ Kennels also have built-in flexibility which absorbs energy that would otherwise be transferred to your dog. This is where the “stiff”, two-walled plastic kennels, which claim to be safer, fail. They may not break, but when your dog hits the side of the kennel, there is no give like there is with a Ruff Land™.
StackRight™ Design
The tops and bottoms of Ruff Land™ kennels all feature form-fit nesting that allows the kennels to fit together, making them stackable.
SureVent™ Tapered Wall Design
The sidewalls on all Ruff Land™ kennels feature a series of vent holes. These vent holes ensure proper air circulation for your dog. Ruff Land™ took this one step further by tapering the side walls so that the vent holes will never get plugged, even if you slide the kennel up against a wall or some other flat sided object.
UpSide™ Raised Floor Interior
The interior floor in a Ruff Land™ kennel is raised so that debris and liquids that fall or spill off to the side are channeled away from your dog. This UpSide™ raised floor design also creates some flex for a built-in cushioning effect for your dog as it rides in your truck.
2-Way Door
They are ambidextrous and can be adjusted to swing either way.
No Bite Grid Pattern Design
They feature a no-bite grid pattern that precludes dogs from chewing.
Rattle-Less
They will not rattle as much (if you’ve owned other kennels you know just how annoying this can be).

I’m very impressed on the durability of this product. I use my hounds and stick dogs in them daily. I’m a huge fan and will buy more.
danielmarlow1848 (verified owner) – March 20, 2020
This kennel is solid. I like all of the features in the door, vents, raised center of the bottom for water shedding, it is all great! I had to adjust the install by bracing the bottom to use four tie down straps with the tie down kit because of a lock box I have for all the SAR gear.
My bloodhound is a very tall bloodline and he weighs 96lbs. He is able to stand comfortably or lay down in this kennel. He is able to turn around although it is slightly tight in the turn but I like that. It keeps him from moving around too much. I will be keeping this kennel for many years to come. I have activated notifications of replies to this review, let me know if you have any bloodhound fit questions.
sharon Nordrum – April 19, 2020
I have purchased several for my labs but I want one for my bloodhound. What size did you buy?

Daniel Marlow (verified owner) – March 20, 2020
I had to use a unique install because of a lock box I have in my truck. I used two 14 inch sections of 6×6 that I had laying around to make it work just right. Great secure install! I will update if anything goes wrong but so far its 5 stars!
This is for a tall 96lb bloodhound. He is able to stand comfortably, lay down fully, and turn-arounds are tight, but doable, for him.
Curtiss DeOliveira – March 8, 2020
Will the X Large fit behind driver or passenger front in a 2017 chevy silverado?
Jake – May 18, 2020
I have a 2017 Silverado 4 door and it fits with the back seats folded up. I move the front seats up put the kennel in and then move the seats back. This was the reason why I bought it! fits perfect!

Christine Peters – May 17, 2020
I was able to get the XL kennel into the backseat of my VW Passat.
Claudia Crosier – April 24, 2020
Hi Daniel our dog is 28 inches tall at the shoulders will this kennel fit into our Pontiac Montana minivan? will he have enough space to lay down and stand comfortably is it something that is strapped in as well?
Daniel Marlow (verified owner) – March 27, 2020
I have a Ford F-150 Extended Cab. It will not fit in my back seat at all. I don’t have a 2017 Chevy to test it on but the measurements are in the description. The height would be my main concern unless you are removing the seats.
Lisa W – February 10, 2020
Does anyone have or know if two XL’s (with front and rear door option) will fit side by side in the rear cargo area of a 2019 Jeep Wrangler 4 door Unlimited (rear seats down).
Lisa W – March 30, 2020
Here are some measurements that are pretty accurate and matching my 2019 model, mine does not have a subwoofer in the cargo area, however. Anyone want to weigh in? I’d be grateful for any help before investing in two of these kennels. https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/jl-wrangler-unlimited-dimensions-measurements-cargo-trunk-rear-seats.2258/?fbclid=IwAR3pDT4xufwN1QKFp3XkPxCq89JRqUWmPJjEiNbpLKe-M-q7qmT9CMkd1JM
Stefanie – February 6, 2020
Is there a length difference in the single door vs the double door on both ends?
[email protected] – February 6, 2020
Yes, the double door front and back interior will be an inch shorter, but the exterior length will be the same
Lynne Chisholm – January 26, 2020
Looking for a Large and XL (I think) I have a Weimaraner and a Boxer both crates to fit in a Grand Cherokee. Do you ship to Edmonton Alberta Canada ? Cost?
Thanks Lynne
Brett Sumpter – January 4, 2020
On the model with the end and side door, does the 40 1/4” exterior measurement include the lip that sticks out for the end door or is that measurement for just the body of the crate?
[email protected] – January 7, 2020
That includes the door frame
Gabriella Ravani – December 13, 2019
My dogs safety and comfort is very, very important to me and these crates are great. The dogs really like them, and I love their safety features, thoughtful design, ease of cleaning and good looks. I compete with my dogs and we travel a lot; so glad I found RuffLand! Customer service is excellent, had a door damaged in shipping and they were super nice and responsive.
Tedd Jones – November 27, 2019
Can I get more info on the slant back kennel? Dimensions, cost, etc. Thanks.
[email protected] – December 3, 2019
All dimensions and costs are listed on the website. You need to choose that style (we only have it available in the intermediate or large) and the second photo will show all the dimensions and a price will pop up
Alyssa – November 20, 2019
Is the picture above without extra vents added? Just making sure.
[email protected] – November 21, 2019
The photos provided are how the kennels come standard
Wes Adams – November 7, 2019
what insulated kennel cover will fit your XL kennel the best?
[email protected] – November 11, 2019
Mud River has one that will fit. It is a very tight squeeze but once you get it on it works
Milton – October 24, 2019
Are you going to be making an SUV slant back for the XL Kennel?
Any word on when the XL with side door will be available?
[email protected] – October 24, 2019
I have not heard of any idea for that size
Dawn Mulcahey – October 22, 2019
What is the width of the interior at the bottom of the large and extra large crates?
[email protected] – October 22, 2019
All floor dimensions are listed on the website under each kennel. The Large is 17 1/2″ and the XL is 19″
Gabriella Ravani – October 18, 2019
Any idea when the side door model will be available?
Gabriella Ravani – November 10, 2019

[email protected] – October 30, 2019

Kori (verified owner) – October 7, 2019

Any word on the side door for the XL kennel?
it is live right now
Kaitlyn – October 17, 2019
When will the side door XL crate be available?
It is available for order on the website now
Not yet, we will have it available shortly
kelly Wilson – October 6, 2019
can you get the xl kennel with side door?
In a couple weeks you will be able to
Daniel – October 2, 2019
Do you have one to fit a bullmastiff?
The largest size we have is the XL
Taylor – October 1, 2019
Can a smaller kennel size be stacked on top of a larger one?
[email protected] – October 1, 2019
The Intermediate, Large, and XL can be stacked on top of each other. For the Small, Mid-Size, and Medium you can only stack the same size on top
S. Smith – September 19, 2019
The picture for the X-Large with the double door shows only 1 row of vent holes on the top and bottom of each side, but almost every other picture on your site shows the kennels with 2 rows of vent holes on the top and bottom per side. When ordering do I need to purchase extra ventilation holes to have those 2 rows per side or is that standard? I would worry about keeping adequate airflow in our climate with just one row. Thank you.
[email protected] – September 19, 2019
On the double door kennels they only come with one row on the top half and one row on the bottom half. You will need to order extra vent holes to get the two rows per half
CeAnne (verified owner) – September 9, 2019
Would you guys ever bring back the green or make a blue?
[email protected] – September 11, 2019
CeAnne, we are working on bringing in a limited edition teal color. I would recommend following our facebook page for updates on what colors and when we will be running them
Greg Hollen – August 21, 2019
Does the XL come with a side door option?
Anna – December 10, 2019
Is there going to be an XL with a front and left side entry door? I need both to fit in the second row of my SUV
[email protected] – December 10, 2019
Im sure we will eventually but it still won’t be for a while as I haven’t heard any plans of it yet
Donna – October 5, 2019
I would be interested in an XL kennel with side and end door… Will that be available soon? Thanks!
It is on its way!
olga – September 29, 2019
does, it available now? side door and end door? looking to order one
[email protected] – September 30, 2019
We do not have them available yet. We will be offering them in a couple weeks
Judi Cannon – September 22, 2019
Hello, do you have an update regarding the side door option on the XL crate?
[email protected] – September 24, 2019
That should be available in a couple weeks
[email protected] – August 26, 2019
Greg, as of right now it does not. However we are currently working on one that we should have available in a few weeks
Irene – August 12, 2019
Hi, are these IATA approved for overseas airline travel? Thanks!
[email protected] – August 13, 2019
Irene, people have used our kennels to fly overseas before. There may be a few extra accessories that you will need to purchase to make it IATA approved. I recommend getting in contact with the airline you will be flying with to see what they require
Steve van Horn – August 8, 2019
Do you stand by the durability/strength of your product? I have an escape artist – would you replace a kennel if my dog was able to chew through the plastic and escape?
Thanks!!
[email protected] – August 9, 2019
Steve, our kennels are one of the most durable on the market, however, if a dog is willing to get out and is known to bite/scratch they can damage the kennel. You can check out our warranty on our website. In this specific occasion it would not be covered under our warranty
Alyssa Mannon – August 2, 2019
I bought 2 XL crates for the back of my 2015 Ford Flex. Its is the only crate that will fit two side by side! 👍So now on all car purchases will be made with my crates in mind. Please bring back more colors! I’d love more in the future and love the purple.
john forrestal – June 15, 2019
What would shipping look like for two crates for 28kg and 20kg dogs, shipped to thailand? we are considering your crates by recommendation from a friend and unfortunately thailand has nothing like this in regards to crate safety (we’d use them also to fly them back to america.) thanks!
[email protected] – June 17, 2019
Shipping kennels to Thailand would cost hundreds of dollars and unfortunately right now we are unable to offer shipping there
AUBREE CHRISTIANO – June 9, 2019
Does this crate not have the option to come with a side door?
Rachel – June 30, 2019
Will this option ever be available in XL? I just ordered one with double door and miss read the info I do NOT like the front and back doors and I ordered the purple so who knows when I’ll get a new one. I talked to a distributor for u guys at a show this weekend and she said you could.
[email protected] – July 3, 2019
I have not heard if we plan on making a side entry for the XL
[email protected] – June 10, 2019
No, on the XL Kennel we only have the single door or double door front and back option
Linda – May 31, 2019
How many rows of vent holes are standard on the Large size RuffLand kennels? Van vent holes be added to the top of the kennel?
[email protected] – June 4, 2019
On the standard Single Door Kennel for the Large there is 2 rows of 6 holes on the top half (side) of the kennel and 2 rows on 6 holes on the bottom half (side) of the kennel. We cannot add Extra Vents to the top of the kennel
Laura – May 30, 2019
I love this crate. Only one I’ve tried so far that my Vizsla can’t escape from
Alisa Turner – June 10, 2019
Thank you for the comment and sharing your experience with our product Laura!
LaVon Barber – May 27, 2019
I have a 15 month old Belgian Malinois and she destructs crates.. How dog proof is this crate? she pulls on the door..
Photo has been removed
[email protected] – May 28, 2019
We recommend getting the side latch rod kit for dogs who push/pull on the door. This goes across the door horizontally and is drilled through the door frame.
Rae – May 24, 2019
How long do these usually take to ship?
We ask 1-2 days to process the order and then shipping is usually 3-5 business days
Tiffany Simpson – May 20, 2019
No matter how hard our 2yo lab has tried he can not break this kennel. LOVE THESE!!!
Mel B – December 26, 2019
Large or XL for lab? Our guy is only 4 months, his dad was 75lbs. Any insight?
[email protected] – December 30, 2019
We don’t recommend sizes as we do not personally know your dog. We recommend going to a vet or a trainer and seeing what they would recommend. Most labs fall in a Large or XL. It just depends on what you are using it for and what you are comfortable with putting your dog in. You can go with a smaller size when traveling but would recommend going with the larger one for more room if it is for at-home use or for sleep
Suzanne Tatam – May 2, 2019
Hi, Are the kennels IATA approved if I add on the metal door? Would I need the door liner? It will be a long 20hrs flying and ground time in the crate. Looking at the XL for my dog 35″ L x 9.5″ W x 29″ H to the ear tips. Weighs only 40lb. Also are they leakproof? Do they come with ventilation holes at the rear? Or would I need to add this on? Can I attach handles by drilling into the sides? Do you ship to Mexico? Thankyou
[email protected] – May 15, 2019
People have flown with our kennels before, however, we recommend getting ahold of the airline you will be flying with to see what they require. They wont leak. They come with 2 vent holes on the back (you can pay more to get some added) You would need to purchase some extra washers to get those handles attached to the side of the kennel. We could ship to Mexico, however shipping cost would be hundreds of dollars
Lucas R Freels – April 29, 2019
What is the return policy on this crate? Can it be returned for free if my dog ends up not fitting?
[email protected] – April 30, 2019
You have 30 days to return the kennel in unused condition, you will be charged shipping for the return.
Luke – April 29, 2019
If my dog does not fit in this crate, is it returnable even though the my dog has been in it?
[email protected] – May 1, 2019
Yes, as long as you don’t use the kennel
Jacque Knight – April 16, 2019
Are you no longer offering the SUV cant to your XL kennels any more?
[email protected] – April 18, 2019
We never offered the SUV style in our XL size Kennel
Gina Cambareri – April 6, 2019
Can I order the crate with side and back holes and no bottom holes?
[email protected] – April 8, 2019
Yes you can, these items are available under each kennel in the drop box
Lisa – April 1, 2019
I travel with bloodhounds. 140lb Not sure the 19 in floor is big enough. Can you make an xl crate wider??
[email protected] – April 1, 2019
We only have one mold that makes all the kennels so unfortunately making a wider XL is not possible
Anthony (verified owner) – March 20, 2019
I’m giving this crate 4 out of 5 stars. The crate is well made, visually pleasing and the perfect size for my little dude. The crate is perfect for home crating and on the go. However I can’t give this product 5 stars, the crate is advertised as rattle free, the crate I received rattles. Also the handles on top prevent the tray from sitting flush on the top. So I have to remove the handles and put them back on often which is annoying.
Other than that though the crate is solid and well priced.
Victoria k (verified owner) – July 11, 2019
Primo pads are what I use in mine and they are awesome!
Eric (verified owner) – June 25, 2019
What type of crate pad do you use for the extra large crate. Seems like there’s no option because the 28 x 18 one that is available is too small
[email protected] – June 25, 2019
We don’t offer any kennel pads for the XL Kennel. However, primo pads have some that fit the XL Kennel
cody – February 18, 2019
i wouldn’t hold you to it, but have you ever had anyone put a male bloodhound in your XL?
John Sparks – April 7, 2019
I put large male Boerboels and Mollosers in the XL’s for vehicle travel all of the time. The big boys have a tight turnaround, but fit once they settle in. These dogs are 160+ lbs. I’ve put big male Bloodhounds in them as well.
[email protected] – February 18, 2019
I haven’t heard of anyone doing it, however I’m sure you could get away with it. We do have some stores that carry the kennels, such as LL Bean, Cabelas, and Bass Pro Shop. You may have one close to you that you could go check the kennels out in person
Bill – February 4, 2019
I purchased a large kennel a few weeks for my 7 month old German Shepherd. He’s a strong boy and grew faster than expected. I contacted Ruffland kennels to see about exchanging for a XL. I spoke to McKenzie who was going to exchange my kennel with no issues. After speaking for a few minutes I mentioned how I would be at the outdoor show in Pennsylvania this weekend and noticed ruffland would be there. She spoke to warehouse Manager Pete who said I could bring the kennel to the show to exchange. Not only did this save me time and money it showed me they value their customers. My large was exchanged this morning after speaking with to Managers Pete and Alisa who both were super helpful and great personalities. The staff is great to speak too, the kennel lasted a 65 lbs Shepherd with high energy. They knew I was a veteran and thanked me for my service. I would highly recommend this company and products. Outstanding customer service!!
Luann – February 2, 2019
Does the xl come with the suv option?
Alexis – January 23, 2020
Will you be bringing back the Malibu blue again anytime soon???
[email protected] – January 23, 2020
We will not be offering the Malibu again
[email protected] – February 4, 2019
Unfortunately it does not come with an SUV option. We only have a single door or double door (front and back) for that size
